Steep yourself in the history of Moscow, the natural grandeur of Pyatigorsk, and the majestic beauty of St. Petersburg. And learn Russian in the process!

 

The Russia in Summer program will begin with a two-day tour of Moscow, where you will visit famous sites such as Red Square and the Kremlin. You will then spend two weeks at the prestigious Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University studying the Russian language. PSLU is rated one of the top liberal arts university in Russia, and is the largest language school in southern Russia. Your language instruction will be supplemented with tours of the historic and natural attractions in the area. Since the early nineteenth-century Pyatigorsk has been a vacation and spa destination, famous for its mountains and springs. The great Russian poet Lermontov spent much time there and set his famous novel A Hero of Our Time

in this city.  Your stay in Pyatigorsk will conclude with a traditional Russian banquet.

The program will conclude with a tour of St. Petersburg and its environs. You'll visit such places as St. Isaac's cathedral, the Hermitage museum and a magnificent palace or two.

 

Cost and details:  The estimated cost of this cultural and linguistic experience will be around $3000*, which will include visa processing, transportation within Russia, accommodations and  instruction, breakfast and lunch at PSLU, tours of Pyatigorsk and environs, and meals, lodging and transportation during the tours of Moscow and St. Petersburg.. The deadlines for application are November 15, 2004 for early admission and February 1, 2005 for regular admission.

* This fee is subject to minor change and does not include airfare to and from Russia, JMU tuition, optional theater events and personal expenses. A $400 non-refundable deposit is required upon acceptance to the program.
